Fundamentals of Spread Spectrum Modulation

Fundamentals of Spread Spectrum Modulation

This lecture covers the fundamentals of spread spectrum modulation, which can be defined as any modulation technique that requires a transmission bandwidth much greater than the modulating signal bandwidth, independently of the bandwidth of the modulating signal. After reviewing basic digital modulation techniques, the principal forms of spread spectrum modulation are described. One of the most important components of a spread spectrum system is the spreading code, and several types and their characteristics are described. The most essential operation required at the receiver in a spread spectrum system is the code synchronization, which is usually broken down into the operations of acquisition and tracking. Means for performing these operations are discussed next. Finally, the performance of spread spectrum systems is of fundamental interest and the effect of jamming is considered, both without and with the use of forward error correction coding. The presentation ends with consideration of spread spectrum systems in the presence of other users.

Modern Spectrum Analysis of Time Series

  • Publisher: CRC Press

Spectrum analysis can be considered as a topic in statistics as well as a topic in digital signal processing (DSP). This book takes a middle course by emphasizing the time series models and their impact on spectrum analysis. The text begins with elements of probability theory and goes on to introduce the theory of stationary stochastic processes. The depth of coverage is extensive. Many topics of concern to spectral characterization of Gaussian and non-Gaussian time series, scalar and vector time series are covered. A section is devoted to the emerging areas of non-stationary and cyclostationary time series. The book is organized more as a textbook than a reference book. Each chapter includes many examples to illustrate the concepts described. Several exercises are included at the end of each chapter. The level is appropriate for graduate and research students.

Spread Spectrum and CDMA

Spread spectrum and CDMA are cutting-edge technologies widely used in operational radar, navigation and telecommunication systems and play a pivotal role in the development of the forthcoming generations of systems and networks. This comprehensive resource presents the spread spectrum concept as a product of the advancements in wireless IT, shows how and when the classical problems of signal transmission/processing stimulate the application of spread spectrum, and clarifies the advantages of spread spectrum philosophy. Detailed coverage is provided of the tools and instruments for designing spread spectrum and CDMA signals answering why a designer will prefer one solution over another. The a...

Response Spectrum Method in Seismic Analysis and Design of Structures

New developments in the response spectrum method have led to calculations in seismic stresses that are more accurate, and usually lower, than those obtained by conventional methods. This new textbook examines the wealth of information on the response spectrum method generated by the latest research and presents the background theory in simplified form. Applications of these methods is essential in the seismic design of critical structures, such as nuclear power plants and petroleum facilities. In new construction, the reduced seismic stresses will result in efficient and economic design. For facilities already built, these more accurate methods can be used where the facility is being reassessed for higher loads and in the calculation of margins. Written by an acknowledged expert in this and related fields, this volume is ideal as a graduate text for courses in structural and earthquake engineering. It is also an excellent reference for civil, structural, mechanical, and earthquake engineers.
